Victoria Gbagbey Nartey Education Support Scholarship

(VGNESS)

 

 

Scholarship Program Guidelines

The Victoria Gbagbey Narteh Educational Support Scholarship (VGNESS) is dedicated to helping youth in Ghana, specifically, the Dangme East & West Districts of the Greater Accra Region, Ghana-West Africa. The late Victoria Gbagbey Nartey believed that “every child of hers can and will learn with the proper educational resources” irrespective of her socioeconomic status and the goals for this scholarship is to carry the impeccable vision of Victoria Gbagbey Nartey to others and help them acquire education irrespective of their socioeconomic background.

 

The Mission, Vision & Purpose of the Victoria Gbagbey Nartey Educational Support Scholarship is to empower the youth in the designated areas/locations with need-based educational support to attain their educational and career goals.

 

NOTE: Scholarship will be awarded to the student upon evidence of good academic performance & demonstration of need as an impediment to furthering their education.

 

Criteria and eligibility (VGNESS Scholarship applicants) 

  1. Applicant must be a Senior High student.

  2. Applicant must demonstrate and provide evidence of good academic performance.

  3. Applicant must have at least a 3.0 grade point average (or a “B” average) in all subjects.

  4. Applicant must demonstrate community involvement, improvement in academics, and be a good ambassador of the scholarship and what it represents.

  5. Applicant must not be related to any member of the Board of Directors or staff, for this presents a conflict of interest.

 

Criteria and eligibility (returning recipients) 

  1. Applicant must be a recipient of the VGNESS Scholarship Program.

  2. Applicant must be a student.

  3. Applicant must have at least a 3.0 grade point average (or a “B” average) in all subjects.

  4. Applicant must not be related to any member of the Board of Directors or staff.

  5. Applicant must complete at least 40 hours of community service. Community service hours must be documented in the form of a letter.

 

General Instructions

  1. DEADLINE for scholarship applications will vary because scholarships are given on a rolling basis.

  2. Refer to application process below for a list of the supporting documents needed. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

  3. If any question does not apply to you in this application, please put N/A in the space.

  4. Type and print legibly. Illegible applications will not be considered. You may also download a copy of the application online at www.mkd-foundation.org.

  5. You will be notified by email regarding the status of your application.

Application Process: 

Applicant must submit the following items:

  1. Completed application form (if handwritten, please print legibly)

  2. Letter of application addressed to the Scholarship Committee.  The letter should contain a brief write-up about yourself and your academic plans. Letter should not exceed one (1) page.

  3. Two (2) letters of recommendations from choice of primary & high school teachers, administrators, counselors, employers, or individuals with significant knowledge of applicant’s experience and involvement.

  4. An official and recent academic report at least two terms prior to the application term.

 

Application Renewal Process:

 

Applicant must submit the following items:

Bringing Change through Community Service

  1. In addition to the above items, applicant must also complete at least 40 hours of community service, during the award period. Community service hours must be documented in the form of a letter. Community service will include:

  • Participating in charitable works with the M-K-D Foundation or any other non-profit organization.

  • Participate in other educational programs of the M-K-D Foundation.

  • Participate in student leadership and student groups like debate society, book club, cultural troops, scripture union, athletic etc.
